Around fifty cars have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they added.
Police then found many other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state early analysis indicate the liquid was probably human blood.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; officials are presently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the event," they stated.
City officials stated they were working "to solve the case" and have asked to the residents for information.
An important official stated the vandalism left him without words and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a gunman targeting people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
